iPhooey

I had a problem where everytime I opened iPhoto, it would tell me that there were problems importing and that X number of photos had been moved to an album called "Recovered Photos." This drove me nuts, but after trying unsuccessfully to repair the iPhoto database several times only to have it crash in the middle, I eventually had to start over. What I did was easy and I wish I had read what I eventually figured out on my own before I'd spent so much time on it. I did a find in the finder (CMD F) and did a search in my iPhoto Library directory for folders called "Thumbs" then from that find window, I drug them to the trash. Same for folders called "Data." Then I renamed the iPhoto Library folder, opened iPhoto and asked it to create a new one. Then I imported all of the photos from the old folder. This will suck for someone who's added a lot of metadata to their photos or created a bunch of albums, but I'm not one of those people. Interestingly, also imported were tons of pictures I'd deleted and a bunch that I didn't take and still have no idea where they came from. Totally weird, but at least I am not getting that annoying message every time. In addition, I cleaned up my music, deleted a whole bunch of crap, and then finished with my first backup in forever. It was all very satisfying.
