LA and LV
It's been almost a week since I've been back, but I went away for a week and a half, making stops in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas, and Austin. LA is a city I'd planned on visiting for a long time and wanted to make the best of it; eating at good restaurants (The Bar Marmont, for one, Urth for another), staying at The Standard Hollywood, seeing old friends and doing some architectural tourism. There was Carolyn, Stephen, Frank Lloyd Wright's Hollyhock House, Schindler's Kings Road House, The Getty, and more. All the pictures are here. Even though I saw friends when I was there, I was tired after a long week, the smog jacked up my allergies and brought me down, and got the same California loneliness that I had when I lived there. I also did something really, really foolish and am regretting it immensely, but that's a story for another day.
I left Los Angeles on the 20th of September and went to Vegas where my allergies caused me to be completely out of it for almost three days straight. The gambling and eating were fun (especially dinner at Binion's), but the rest of the time was just relaxing; so relaxing I couldn't keep a thought in my head for more than thirty seconds straight, including the simplest of driving directions.
