Speaking of policy, which I mentioned the other day, here are 100 Things Restaurant Staffers Should Never Do Part 1 and Part 2. A couple of my favorite pet peeves are not on this list and you may get irritated reading the comments (especially if you have waited tables before and/or receive bad service on a regular basis) but it's a great read nonetheless. One rule of thumb not mentioned in the article: check back on your table within a minute of the food getting dropped. I don't want to wait half my meal to get the ketchup I need and may have already even asked for. Also, cold butter sucks and it doesn't go bad - just leave it out in the kitchen. I'm sure I can think of a whole bunch more - I was ticking them off in my head just the other day at Punch where I received surprisingly subpar service. Anyway, even if you don't wait tables, read the lists and pass them on.
In other, other news, I've begun watching the third season of Mad Men after reaquating myself by watching the last four of the second season and am devouring analysis at various Mad Men blogs... More on that later.
