I was in Dallas for the weekend to attend Joel's funeral and despite the circumstances, had a very good time and reconnected with a bunch of people that I hadn't seen in a very, very long time, not to mentioned the ones who I saw at the funeral - many of whom I hadn't seen since I left high school almost 15 years ago! It was a short and lovely trip and I was glad I was able to go to pay my respects to Joel and his family.
A couple of links: Joel's obituary in the Dallas Morning News (including confirmation of speculation regarding how someone so young could die of pneumonia) and parts one and two of a video put together for and played during the ceremony highlighting Joel's life and career. They were wonderful tribute and true to life. He was way out there and a lot of fun and he had become more himself every day.
May he rest in peace.
